Royal Caribbean's New Oasis Class Ship, Utopia of the Seas coming Spring 2024

Construction has begun on the newest ship in Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis Class. The vessel, named the Utopia of the Seas, will be the sixth and final cruise ship in Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class.

The announcement was made at a steel-cutting ceremony that took place at the Chantiers d l’Atlantique shipyard where the ship will be constructed in Saint-Nazaire, France.

The Utopia of the Seas is the first Oasis Class ship powered by liquefied natural gas or LNG. LNG is the cleanest fossil fuel that is available to power cruise ships today. This type of fuel can reduce carbon emissions by approximately 30 percent (30%), can reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by approximately 85 percent (85%), and can even reduce sulfur emissions by nearly 100 percent (100%).  The Utopia of the Seas will also continue the green, environmentally friendly practices that have been adopted on other Royal Caribbean ships, including waste heat recovery applications and shore power connection.

Utopia of the Seas will be one of the biggest cruise ships in the world. The vessel is reported to measure 362 m with 2,800 staterooms and the maximum capacity to hold approximately 7,000 guests. Utopia of the Seas is due to be delivered in spring 2024.

Royal Caribbean has not yet released information on what types of entertainment, restaurants, cabin categories, and activities should be expected on the vessel. However, going off what was announced when the Wonder of the Seas debuted in 2022, it is expected that Utopia of the Seas will have many of the same features, including:

  • Large suites-only neighborhood, a feature which can be found on the first Icon-class ship, Icon of the Seas, debuting in 2024,
  • Outdoor boardwalk neighborhood with restaurants, shops, and family activities,
  • Open-air Central Park neighborhood,
  • Waterslides,
  • Ice skating rink,
  • AquaTheatre entertainment,
  • Ultimate Abyss dry slide, and
  • Two-story Royal Promenade

Royal Caribbean has not announced from which port the Utopia of the Seas will offer cruises, but more information should be released as construction progresses.
